What it does

Befriending is the act of visiting a lonely or socially isolated person in their own home to provide support and companionship.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, our volunteers haven’t been able to visit people in their homes, instead they have been making phone calls to provide support. This has been an invaluable lifeline throughout the pandemic and at the height of lockdown, our volunteers were making 80 calls a week!

Read Kathleen’s story about how befriending has been a lifeline for her.

We are always looking for volunteers to join our befriending team.  If you have three to four hours to spare a week get in touch with our volunteering coordinator, Betty – betty@royds.org.uk.

Alternatively, you can download an application here to fill out and return to us.

We are very proud to have been awarded the People Can Kitemark, this is awarded to organisations that demonstrate their volunteering programmes provide the best experience possible for volunteers.
